CERAP (Centre d’Étude et de Recherche Appliquée en Psychopédagogie Perceptive) is a laboratory specialised in applied research on perceptual psychoeducation; it is affiliated with Fernando Pessoa University, in Porto (Portugal). It was created in 2002 and brings together international researchers (France, Canada, Brazil, Belgium, Switzerland, Greece and Portugal) in a collaborative team of 5 permanent members and 8 associated scientists headed by Prof Danis Bois. Its main focus is the sense-experience of the embodied self as lived through the tools that are specific to the mode of the Sensible.

The research fields are varied and include social science, educational science, psychology, sociology and phenomenology. The type of scientific research involved has required the development of appropriate methodologies and the conceptualization of an epistemology that is relevant to these, such that perceptual subjectivity can become a scientific object, properly described and documented.

CERAP’s research is structured around 4 main areas:

  1. Wellbeing and personal development practices - impact assessment on the different sectors of the person’s life. This area of research addresses the professional applications of perceptual psychoeducation and DBM Fasciatherapy with reference to people’s experience of this practice and its impact on the issues they encounter in their lives.

  2. The concepts of perceptual psychoeducation and of the paradigm of the Sensible, as well as epistemological and methodological innovations on the study of subjectivity and lived experience - The research on this area brings to light new perspectives on the concepts of human potentialities, of becoming and of the conditions of inner self-experience, with regards to their applied effects in practice. The studies address the key concepts of the embodied self-experience, such as perceptual-cognitive modifiability, the process spiral of the Sensible and ‘knowing by contrast’

  3. Field analyses in training, education, personal support and coaching - This area refers to the study of the formative processes at play within perceptual psychoeducation or DBM Fasciatherapy practices : mobilizing a bodily and sensorial intelligence, enriching learning and perceptual skills and strategies, the processes of perceptual-cognitive activity and self-development, the transfer mechanisms of the embodied self-experience towards new ways of being.

  4. The narrative process and the analysis of the singular experience : This research area refers to the lived experiences of the Sensible using biographical tools designed to let new knowledge emerge from inner subjectivity (self-knowledge, self-awareness, personnal development)
